The Fine Art of Acrylic GlazingLearn this Old Master's technique applied in the modern day medium of acrylic paint. Glazing gives the artist complete control over colour mixing... allowing for richer, more subtle colours and greater suggestion of depth and distance in a more unified painting. This technique can also be used to enhance paintings created in other techniques and styles. Students will do a variety of exercises as well as create a painting from their own resource material. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced artists. ABC's of Acrylic Painting IIf you've always wanted to learn to paint then this course is for you! You will learn about the wonderfully versatile medium of acrylic paint, "tools of the trade" and a variety of painting techniques. You will also learn how colour, value, composition and perspective can improve your paintings, as well as some of the unique things you can do with acrylic paints. Each week will consist of a brief lesson and exercise and then students will work on their own paintings. Handouts will be provided so that you can refer back to them whenever you need to refresh your memory. Acrylics à la CarteUsing acrylic paint and media, this course offers a smorgasbord of creative ideas and neat things to stretch your mind and artistic skills, including: stretching, preparing and painting
on raw linen; photo transfers; texture media and extrusion; using interference and iridescent colours; mono-prints; old masters' grisaille techniques; mixed media; faux metallics; painting glass on wood; working on black canvas and more. Students will require their own basic acrylic painting supplies, a variety of acrylic mediums, any found items (feathers, shells, etc) that they want to use, as well as resource photos. Some supplies will be provided. Specialized supply fee $25 per student is payable to the instructor at the first class. This program is suitable for all levels of students. Next Steps for Beginning ArtistsThis four week program is designed for emerging artists who are looking for direction inadvancing towards their art career goals but aren't quite sure what their next steps should be. It covers a variety of subjects pertinent to the art business, such as: pricing artwork; framing; exhibiting; record keeping; developing a portfolio; accepting commissions; and PST and GST. The course evolves around the actual needs of the students and each participant will write his or her own development plan as an artist. Workbook $25, payable to instructor at first class. Getting Started in AcrylicsThis workshop offers you the opportunity to learn both acrylic painting and plein air (on
location) painting. We will begin in the studio with exercises to help you become comfortable with acrylic paint and then work outdoors, in the breathtaking natural beauty of this residential art school, putting the studio lessons into practice. We will look at how colour, value, composition and perspective improve paintings, as well how to paint water, trees, rocks, sky, buildings and much more. At the end of this workshop you will be able to see just how much you have learned over the four days, and I promise, you will be amazed! Workbook included. Oil Painting Level 1Painting in oils can be very rewarding for the new artist. In this program you will learn about the forgiving medium of oil paint, "tools of the trade" and a variety of painting techniques. You will also learn how colour, value, composition and perspective can improve your paintings. Each week will consist of a brief lesson and exercise and then students will work on their own paintings. Handouts included. Oil Painting Level 1 - ContinuationPractice makes perfect! For students who have taken Getting Started in Oil Painting, or any other beginner oil painting program, this course offers the opportunity to expand on current knowledge and get to the next level of painting skills. Students will work on their own paintings and be instructed in more advanced skills in colour mixing and palette selection, composition and perspective. Plein Air Painting WorkshopsThese workshops are suitable for beginner and intermediate painters who have a basic understanding of oil or acrylic paint. Locations:Maps provided.
