Michael Wilcox School of Color – Residential Colour Mixing Workshop
By understanding what really happens when colours are mixed, you will be able to master colour mixing once and for all, and in a very short time. This colour mixing workshop is applicable to oils, acrylics, watercolour, gouache, pastels, coloured pencils, silk screen inks, textile inks and all arts and crafts which involve the use of colour. Bridgewater Retreat, with six acres on the Skootamata River, is a very special residential venue for students and artists alike. It offers a wide array of inspirational features, including granite cliffs, a sand beach, wooden dock, natural forest, grassy meadow, stone bridge, log cabins, placid water, river rapids, gardens, nature and wildlife. It is, quite literally, an artist’s creative dream!
The workshop will be held in one of Bridgewater’s well-appointed art studios, creating a fully focused learning experience for workshop participants.

Acrylic Painting
A relaxed painting environment for those who wish to develop their artistic skills at their own pace. Open to all levels of painters, instruction is individual, although if the group wishes, any number of skills and techniques can be addressed as class exercises.

Acrylics à la Carte
Using acrylic paint and media, this course offers a smorgasbord of creative ideas and neat things to stretch your mind and artistic skills, including: stretching and painting on raw linen; photo transfers; texture media and extrusion; using interference and iridescent colours; mono-prints; faux metallics and more. Students will require their own basic acrylic painting supplies and acrylic mediums, found items (feathers, shells, etc) as well as resource photos. Some supplies will be provided. This program is suitable for all levels of students.

Michael Wilcox School of Color – Colour Mixing Course
You will not want to miss this workshop presented by Susan Ashbrook, a noted artist and Registered Teacher with the internationally acclaimed Michael Wilcox School of Color.
The workshop will impart a clear understanding of the science and physics of light and colour as it applies to the artist. Participants will achieve an in-depth knowledge of colour mixing, colour harmony, and colour contrast as well as discussing artist’s pigments and techniques. This approach to colour mixing is widely recognized today as the only way for artists to accurately select and mix colours.
This workshop is intended for fine artists, graphic artists, designers – interior and exterior, fabric artists, and teachers of all levels who strive to gain a better understanding and control over colour use in their work.

The “I’ve Always Wanted to Paint” Workshop
Have you dreamed about learning to paint but are not quite sure that it’s for you? This workshop offers you the opportunity to try painting without the time and financial commitment of a session of weekly classes. ABC’s of Acrylic Painting
If you’ve always wanted to learn to paint then this course is for you! You will learn about the wonderfully versatile medium of acrylic paint, “tools of the trade” and a variety of painting techniques. You will also learn how colour, value, composition and perspective can improve your paintings, as well as some of the unique things you can do with acrylic paints. Each week will consist of a brief lesson and exercise and then students will work on their own paintings.

Artist Colour Workshop
This hands-on colour workshop will take the hesitation and fear out of mixing colours. You will learn to mix the right colours, explore limited palettes and experiment with traditional and unusual colour combinations. Students will create resource material for future reference.
Susan is also a registered teacher with the Michael Wilcox School of Color.

Next Steps for Beginning Artists
This program is designed for beginning artists who are looking for direction in advancing towards their goals but aren’t quite sure what their next steps should be. It covers a variety of subjects pertinent to the art business, such as pricing artwork, exhibiting, record keeping, developing a portfolio, accepting commissions and PST and GST. The course will evolve around the actual needs of the students and each participant will write their own plan for their development as an artist. Workbooks will guide students through the various processes and homework will be assigned to be completed between classes.
